Too bad we are having another crap winter. However, the Redfish are adjusting t0 the sub 50 degree water temp fairly good. On the good weather days when we have light winds and daytime temperatures in the mid 50′s to lower 60′s large schools of Redfish are easy to find on the flats. A well presented Gulp bait or brown Clouser type Fly will generate plenty of action. Most of the trips have been around low water but I did get to make a couple of high water trips this week. The Redfish are less spooky and more aggressive on the high water. The sighting platform on the T-Top is absolutely the bomb. As long as we have sunshine the schools of Redfish cannot avoid being heavily pursued. Check out the picture below where I circled a school of Redfish that is at least 200′ ahead of the boat. I hope you can see the fish in the fly fishing video, more than a couple around.
New Fish-finder On The Bay Boat
Cold in these parts right now. Colder than normal for December and the water temp is at or below January levels. The colder water has made a definite change in the eating behavior of the Redfish. The Redfish are in very large, I mean bonified Whopper schools and with the new fish-finder on the bay boat easy to find. However, they are not as aggressive as they were three weeks ago thus to hook up accurate casts plus patience to work the Gulp Baits real slow are required. The new T-Top with the sit on top base where I can run the trolling motor and spot the fish before they get spooked provided us this week with tons of catching opportunities. Even with a little chop on the water I have a great view of the bottom and where the fish are holding. All I need is a few more energetic anglers and good sunshine to fill the fish box.
